Taxes Rise In France
(N.Z.P.A .-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, May 8. The French Government has announced higher income taxes, increased rail fares and a cut in Government spending. Electricity prices and some prices of consumer goods would also be increased, the Minister of Finance (Mr Giscard d’Ektaing) said last night, the British United Press reported. The rises were necessary to meet the increased cost of running the country, he said. Mr dTEstaing denied in the National Assembly that there was inflation or a recession in France. “But on the difficult road to progress, the French economy must be guided," he said.
