MACMILLAN DESPISED

Comments By Welensky

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) SALISBURY, May 7. The Rhodesian Federal Prime Minister, Sir Roy Welensky said last night he despised the British Prime Minister (Mr Macmillan) and his Government.

Sir Roy Welensky said he had good reason to resent the treatment he had had in his efforts to save the Rhodesian Federation. “And I do not apologise for any word I have said,” he said in a recorded television interview.

Sir Roy Welensky said he had been treated contemptuously and then added: “I despise Macmillan and his Government.”

He said his judgment had been right and the line he had taken was to do the best he could for the territories of the Federation.

Sir Roy Welensky said it was verging on “stark lunacy” not to maintain some common links between Northern and Southern Rhodesia.

The interview is expected to be shown in Britain.
