MAN, YOUTH ON TRIAL
Incident At Party (N.Z. Press Association) i INVERCARGILL, May 8. Evidence of how a man and a youth were alleged to have aided and abetted the commission of attempted rape in the back section of a house at Clifton, near Invercargill, was heard in the Supreme Court at Invercargill before Mr Justice Henry today. The two accused. James Mason, aged 22, and Taru Ririnui, aged 16, both labourers, both pleaded not guilty The complainant, aged 18. ■aid she attended a party in Clifton on February 19 About 9 pun. she left the house. She asked Ririnui to accompany her because “there were too many men outside.” The girl said she was seized by a group of men who dragged her to the back of the section. There two men attempted to rape her. In ' statements they allegedly made to the police read to the Court by Detec-tive-Sergeant E. M. Jones, both Ririnui and Mason admitted they helped drag the girl to the back of the section. Six men have been chargeo with alleged offences against the girt Two have already been sentenced and two have been remanded for sentence The trial will continue tomorrow.
