Soccer GAMBLE ON YOUTH
Western Tries New Player
Western, bottom club in this season’s Hurley Shield competition has taken the gamble of playing a newcomer to premier division soccer in its match against Shamrock, which will be telecast live at English Park tomorrow. The place of the former Wellington representative. W King, at right-back, will be filled by 17-year-old Malcolm Thompson, who graduated from the fourth grade last season to premier reserve this year. King has strained thigh ligaments. Western has also made changes in the attack from the side that drew, 1-1, with the championship leader. Nomads, last Saturday. A. Bishop, the Canterbury representative, returns to the right-wing, enabling D. Torkington and B Smith to take up their usual positions at inside-left and out-side-left respectively. Shamrock, too. has a fullback problem. P. Fletcher, the left-back, is injured with a burst blood vessel in his leg. and his deputy. L. Tullett. has a suspected broken bone in his foot. Another on the injured list is the wing, J. Klllick. The teams are:—
