PAINFUL ILLNESS
Katipo Thought Responsible (IV.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. May 2. A Katipo spider bite is believed to be responsible for the painful illness of an 18-year-old New Plymouth bank clerk. He believes the spider was concealed among grass on Strandon beach.
He knew something had bitten him when his arm became painful, red and swollen. Gradually his back and feet stiffened and his toes became semi-paralysed, The next day sweat poured from him.
The youth, back at work today, said a newly-devel-oped anti-katipo serum was available, but was not used because he was recovering without it.
