PULPWOOD SOURCES

Beech Forests Considered (N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, May 2. The beech forests of New Zealand, particularly those in the South Island, constituted a potential pulpwood source, the senior scientific officer at the Forest Research Institute, Rotorua. Mr J. M. Uprichard, said today. Mr Uprichard presented a paper to the conference of the Australian and New Zealand Pulp and Paper Industry Association in Rotorua today. The paper said the future programme of pulp research at the institute was to study the effects of biological variation on the pulping properties of Pinos radiata and the properties of pulps produced from beeches.

“The pulping of these exotic softwoods other than Pinus radiata, which are present in the forests of the North Island will also be examined.”
