WAITAKERE SEAT
Dr. Finlay For Labour (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 25. Dr. A. M. Fiijlay, president of the Labour Party, has beea selected as the Labour candidate for Waitakere in the General Election.
Dr. Finlay, an Auckland barrister and solicitor, is in
his fourth term as the national president of the party. He first stood for Parliament, unsuccessfully, in 1943 as the Labour candidate for Remuera. He was the member of Parliament for North Shore from 1946 to 1949, and since then has made several unsuccessful attempts to gain Labour nomination for various Auckland seats. Born in Dunedin, Dr. Finlay was educated at Otago Boys’ High School and at Otago University he graduated Ll.B. in 1934. He gained his LI.M. with first-class honours two years later. He was awarded the New Zealand travelling scholarship in law in 1936 and graduated PhD. (London) in 1938.
