Visit Planned For City Man
As the Canterbury Museum Trust Board proposed to include a Rutherford Hall of Science in a new wing to celebrate the museum’s centenary in 1970. Mr R. Riccalton, the assistant preparator, would include in his overseas itinerary a visit to the Atomic Energy Museum at Oak Ridge. Tennessee. said the Director of the museum (Dr. R. S. Duff) in his annual report to the board.
After a comprehensive tour of museums in the United States and Great Britain Mr Riccalton would attend the annual meeting of the International Council of Museums in Paris.
“Although we are not ashamed of the museum movement in New Zealand we do suffer the inevitable effects of isolation and study visits such as this provide the necessary inspiration for continuing our forward development.” said Dr. Duff. “Mr Riccalton is well qualified to benefit from his visit and we look forward to benefiting from the new ideas and techniques he will bring to bear on our future display programme.” The board decided ‘hat up to £5O be granted to Mr Riccalton for the collection of “useful pictorial material" during his trip. Mr G. C. C. Sandston was re-elected chairman of the Trust Board.
