CITY PLAY CENTRES
Workshop Day Held Representatives from Westland, Cheviot, Hanmer Springs. Amberley, Leeston. Glenmark and Akaroa attended a workshop school held receratly by the Christchurch Play Centre Association at the Fairleigh Play Centre. There was an attendance of 59 in the morning and 39 in the afternoon. With the emphasis on four to five-year-olds, Mesdames M. Royds and U. Vincent gave demonstrations. Mrs Janet Coote, a teacher of speech and drama, lectured on finger play relating to the development of speech. Mrs D. Brockenshire, a former lecturer at the school of physical education at Otago University, spoke about the growth of feet, the effects of incorrectly-fitting shoes, and the advantages of bare feet. Mrs M. Suckling, a former supervisor, gave a puppet demonstration. Supervisor appointments made by the committee of management at a recent meeting were:—Oxford supervisor, Mrs W. Canney: Fendalton assistant supervisor, Mrs J. Skeats: Kaikoura assistant supervisor. Mrs B. Eaton; Fairleigh assistant supervisor, Mrs N. Roberts.
