Third Child For Mrs Kennedy

(N.ZJ’.A.-Reuter —Copyright) PALM BEACH (Florida), April 16. Mrs Jacqueline Kennedy is expecting her third child in the latter half of August, the White House announced yesterday.

The White House press secretary (Mr Pierre Salinger) called a special press conference at the Kennedy's holiday home in Palm Beach. Florida, to make the announcement. He said that Mrs Kennedy, who has had difficulties with her other pregnancies, has cancelled all official activities until the child is born. The fact that 33-year-old Mrs Kennedy, the youngest First Lady in modern times, was pregnant was a wellkept secret. The White House said Mrs Kennedy would have her baby in Washington, where two-year-old John was born. Five-year-old Caroline, like her brother, delivered by caesarean section, was born in New York. United Press International said it expected that the next child also would be delivered by caesarean section.

On the advice of her doctors. Mrs Kennedy has cancelled plans to accompany the President on his trip to Italy and Germany in June. She plans to remain at Palm Beach until April 24 and to fly to Cape Cod in May to spend the summer at a leased home in Hyannisport, Massachusetts. The child’s birth will make Mr Kennedy the second chief executive to become a father while in office. Mrs Grover Cleveland gave birth to two daughters during her husband’s second term as President.

Two other members of the Kennedy family are expecting babies. The wife of the Attorney-General (Mr Robert Kennedy) is expecting her eighth and Mrs Edward Kennedy, wife of the President’s other brother, is expecting her third.

Mrs Kennedy will be under the care of Dr. John Walsh, a Washington obstetrician who cared for her during earlier pregnancies. She has

had two miscarriages but is reported to be in good health. Her next child will be the twenty-third grandchild of Mr Joseph P. Kennedy, the President’s father. Of the other Kennedys, Mrs Eunice Shriver has three children. Mrs Jean Smith has two and Mrs Pat Lawford has four.
