POLARIS PACT
Secret Clauses Claimed
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON. April 15.
Britain and the United States have attached certain “secret minutes” to their Polaris missile agreement made public last week, authoritative sources said today. The nature of the unpublished agreed minutes was not disclosed.
Sources maintained they did not affect the rights and obligations contained in the agreement. They said the minutes were consistent with the arrangements envisaged in the Nassau communique last December.
The communique announced that the United States agreed to sell Polaris missiles, less nuclear warheads. to Britain. Rumours of additional secret agreements have circulated since the detailed pact was re-
leased in London and Wash ington last Tuesday.
“Missiles and Rockets” magazine said there was very strong evidence that “secret codicils” were attached. Under the public agreement, Britain will buy from the United States between 64 and 100 Polaris rockets for her planned force of four nuclear-missiles-carrying submarines.
