Universities’ Tourney Won By Otago

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 15. Otago has won the New Zealand Universities’ 1963 Easter tournament. Only cricket and tennis have to be completed tomorrow and Otago, with 44 points, cannot be beaten. The other places will not be known till the tournment ends.

Official points for the tournament shield tonight were: Otago 44, Victoria 23, Auckland 22, Canterbury 21, Massey 2, Lincoln 0.

Tonight Otago added the swimming shield to its successes in women’s athletics, basketball and shooting. It has had second placings in all the other sports so far decided.

Otago’s tennis team is assured of a placing, but its cricket team will get no points. Victoria will probably take the honours in tennis. It has already won the men’s teams competition and has three of the four semi-finalists in the individual section. The outcome of the cricket depends on tomorrow’s games. Canterbury and Auckland have 16 points, and Victoria is close behind with 13 points. Athletics

Auckland and Otago each scored 12 points for the tournaments shield in athletics events held at the Basin Reserve today.
