Bus Fares
Sir,—l understand our bus fares are raised Id on first and second sections; but why has the two-section concession ticket been raised from 3s 9d to 4s 9d for nine rides? That makes the increase more than a penny a ride, which seems very unfair to the passengers The use of the concession ticket saves time; it is not much of a concession at the present rate.—Yours, etc., DISAPPOINTED PASSENGER. April 5. 1963
(The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board says; “The board raised its cash fares by id a section above the previous rates, and that is the first section from 3d to 4d, the second section from 6d to 7d and so on. The basis for nine-ride trip cards under the old fare system was 9 x 6d. equalling 4s 6d. less Id per ride. 9d; selling price, 3s 9d. The cost of a secondsection nine-ride trip card under the new fare schedule is based on 9 x 7d, equalling 5s 3d. less 10 per cent., fid. selling price 4s 9d. This is quite a good discount for the type of card, but if the passenger is a regular rider, there is available a 20-ride card which gives a 30 per cent, discoun' which is a generous discount, particularly as a similar rate of discount cannot be obtained on any other form of retail purchase.”]
