SCHOOL FIRE
Second In Three
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND. Ap. 11 14.
Fire early this morning destroyed a shelter shed only feet away from the infant department of Meadowbank School. When firemen arrived shortly after 1 a m. the shed, used to store cleaning materials and old desks, was burning fiercely. Flames were lapping the entrance to the infant block.
The blaze was brought under control in 15 minutes. Damage to the infant block was restricted to charring and blistering of the paintwork.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. It was the second school fire in Auckland in three days. On Friday, fire severely damaged the Owairaka School shortly after the school safe was forced. Both schools will be open as usual on Wednesday.
The police said today there was no connexion between the two fires.
