Marching CITY TEAMS DO WELL
Championships At Otematata Three Christchurch marching teams were successful at the South Canterbury Centre closing day championships held at Otematata last week-end. The teams, which are all instructed by Mr R. E. Cairns, were Blue Star Taxis. Motorways’ Royal Guards, and Downing's Red Robins. Blue Star Taxis, undefeated this season, won the midget championship by more than 30 points and its leader. Miss P. Anderson—who had never led the team before—was beaten by only nine points. In addition, the team won the display and aggregate competitions. Motorways' Royal Guards, who beat Zodiac (Timaru), the South Island champion, at the Canterbury Centre Championships three weeks ago. had the positions reversed in the junior grade. However, the leader. Miss F. Kennedy, won her event and the team was runner-up in all the other competitions.
Results were:— Midget.—Championship: Blue Star Taxis (Christchurch) 1, Benmorettes (Otematata) 2. Display: Blue Star Taxis. Aggregate: Blue Star Taxis. Leader: Benmorettes. Uniform: Bellbirds (Otematata). Special award: Miss M. Trower (Blue Star Taxis.
Junior.—Championship: Zodiac (Timaru) 1. Motorways’ Royal Guards (Christchurch) 2. Display: Zodiac. Aggregate: Zodiac. Leader: Miss F. Kennedy (Motorways’ Royal Guards). Uniform: Waimate Sentinals. Special award: Zodiac. Senior.—Championship: Blair Atholl (Dunedin) 1 Downing’s Red Robins (Christchurch) 2. Display: Blair Atholl. Aggregate: Blair Atholl. Leader: Miss J. Russell (Downing’s Red Robins). Uniform: Downing's Red Robins. Special award: Miss L. Cairns (Downing's Red Robins).
