Good Trial For Riccarton "The Press" Special Service WANGANUI. April 9. The Bagby-trained trio. Tilka, Lionheart and Hornpipe, which will race at the Canterbury Easter meeting this week-end. returned pleasing trials at Wanganui this morning. Accompanied by the juvenile Caspian (Anscombe), Tilka (O’Connor) recorded a smart half-mile in 49 3-ssec. the last three taking 37 l-ssec. At no time was Tilka asked for an effort.
Hornpipe (Anscombe) was with Sigh (O’Connor) over a fast six furlongs in Imin 14 3-ssec. the first three requiring 36sec. Though Sigh, which had the worst of the start, dominated the gallop. Hornpipe worked easily throughout
Last week Hornpipe made her middle distance debut with the open handicappers at Stratford, but she failed to see out the 10-furlong journey She should appreciate the drop in class and distance in the Warstep Stakes.
The promising middledistance performer Lionheart (O’Connor) was keen to work over six furlongs with Clipper (Anscombe) in Imin 17 4-ssec. the last three in 40sec
Lionheart, which will be running out his hack nominations at Riccarton, was an impressive last-start winner at Awapuni. The stablemates will be shipped south tomorrow. T. J. Rudd will ride Lionheart and Tilka and W. D. Skelton will ride Hornpipe.
