Popular Win

W. Legge, commodore of the Lake Waitaki Power Boat Cfob, had a popular win in the King at the Lake race at the New Brighton Power Boat Club at Lake Forsyth on Sunday. Hie skiff-type speedboat, SkatKat m, is powered by a Corvette engine and will do 70 mph. The boat, built by J. Ryan, of the New Brighton dub, comers beautifully. Two new members of the New Brighton club ,B. Ching and D. Chum, attended the week-end meeting. They have brought another Ryanbuilt speedboat, Mias Cathie. Miss Cathie was almost holed near the bows by the heavy poundong of the rough water at the lake. More than 50 families attended the week-end meeting, the first of its type to be held by the club. Fifteen visiting boats took part in the races, and there were 25 local boats as well. Eve Too (W. McCaw) and Tallyho (L Roberts), both of the Lake Rotoiti club, and Wild One (D. Wilson), of Oamaru, were among the visiting place-getters Although bad weather on Sunday meant that only four races could be run, toe Saturday programme provided some excellent racing, particularly the Le Mans start events. The New Brighton club is considering melting the event an annual one, although it will probably be held earlier in the season.
