New Education District
Sir,—The Ashburton School committees opposed the Ashburton-South CanterburyWaitaki education district without knowing all the facts The report of the Commission on Education looks forward to metropolitan boards. It said: "The growth of the metropolitan area around Christchurch is likewise swelling the rolls of the Canterbury Education Board, which itself covers a large district. Metropolitan boards are, the commission feels, desirable if the specifically unban problems of education that emerge in all large cities are to be attacked successfully, and with as much energy as had always been devoted in the past to solving the special problems of rural education.” I doubt whether this statement was put before the meeting by the Education Board members who took part in the meeting, and who should have been aware of the recommendation.—Yours, etc., DOUGAS C, McKENZTE.
