OIL SEARCH EXTENDED

Inglewood Well To 17,000 ft (NX. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 20. Oil search operations in Taranaki would be extended to the rugged country east of Eltham, a spokesman for the exploration company, Shell, B.P„ and Todd Oil Services, Ltd., Mr A. M. Harvie, said today. Drilling at the Inglewood wildcat site will go down to a record level of 17.000 feet, he said. Seismic surveys of earth strata would be undertaken at Moeroa, 30 miles east of Eltham. Surveys were at present being made in the Whangamomona district, and when these were completed the operations would be extended to Moeroa. Oilmen near Inglewood had drilled to 12,032 feet at 8 am. yesterday and the target depth of the well was in the vicinity of 17,000 feet. The deepest well at present is Mangahewa No. 1, which is 14,049 feet. Mr Harvie said a 91 inch casing had been run at Inglewood No. 1 to a depth of 11,960 feet. Drilling had started again, and the casing now had a diameter of 8J inches.
