Counter Lunches All hotels in the Greymouth district will soon be serving counter lunch again, if they have not already resumed. Hotelkeepers of the Greymouth area agreed .to reintroduce counter snacks this week. The Hotel Association of New Zealand banned counter lunches some years ago, hut in Greymouth a number of hotels continued to serve them. Now all will provide the macks.—(F.O.O.R.) Popular Product It was disappointing to see New Zealand goods selling at a third of their value, said Mrs 1 M. Rutherford, reporting on an international fete held in London for the Save the Children Fund, at the annual meeting of the Dominion council of the fund yesterday. “Stallholders from all Commonwealth countries complained that they could not sell their products. This was because the type of customer was looking for cheap Christmas presents, not quality goods.” said Mrs Rutherford. “The stall selling Portuguese goods was most popular,” she added. “It was selling bottles of port wine at 3s fid each.” Wildlife Preserved An offer by a man to reduce the number of opossums on Rangitoto Island by using cyanide was declined by the island domain board. The chairman (Mr F. S. Stevens) said there was no evidence that opossums were doing much harm on the island. Fishing Rivers The Ashley and Selwyn rivers were reported to be clear .nd fishable at 9 a.m. yesterday by the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. The Waiau and Hurunui rivers, and the Waimakariri river at the gorge were discoloured. The Waimakariri river at the mouth was dirty, and the Rakaia was dirty.
