VETERAN PROP

One of the props named in the English Rugby team to make a five match tour of New Zealand in May, C. R. Jacobs, is in toe veteran stage. At the age of 34, this Cambridgeshire farmer may well be considered fortunate to have won selection, but those who have seen him play this year are certain he will be one of the tour’s big successes. Jacobs, who was not capped until the age of 27. played 22 times for England until he dropped out of favour two years ago. But Jacobs proved that has age was no determining factor when it came to selecting an English team by setting a front-row standard few have been able to match in the Five Nations championship.

As a working farmer. Jacobs is used to physical labour. He has the knowledge to put this strength to ttie best advantage, and is unlikely to buckle under the furious onslaughts England expects from New Zealand.
