UNIVEISITY VACANCIES THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF ADVANCED STUDIES Department of Demography APPLICATIONS are invited for two positions:— 1. RESEARCH FELLOW within tlie range £ A 1656-2450. 2. SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW within the range £A2620-3160 Appointments in these categories are usually for three years with possible extension to a maximum of five years, but a shorter term may be considered in each case. While the successful applicants will be expected to assist in the supervision of students and in seminars. tne greater part of their time will be available for their own research. The research interests of the Department include the broader historical, social and economic studies of population movements. such as international migration and urbanisation, as well as the statistical analyses of marriage, fertility and mortality. Current research is focussed upon Australia New Zealand. the Pacific Islands and Southern and Eastern Asia, but research is not necessarily limited to these areas. The Manager will be responsible ;to the Board for the general 1 management of the Press, which will undertake the activities usual to University Presses, but will not itself engage in printing or in retail bookselling. The , salary will lie within the range ; £2500 to £3500 per annum, the actual rate being determined in ' the light of qualifications and experience of the appointee. Salary will be subject to deductions under the State Superannuation Act. Under the Staff Members' Housing Scheme, in cases approved by the University and its Bankers, married men may be assisted by loans to purchase a house. Applicants should have experience in publishing, but not necessarily in all its branches. Applicants should be graduates with capacity for research. Some scholarships are offered for competition among those ' wishing to enrol. Students 1 normally enrol for the Ph.D ' degree (the course for which i extends over three years).
