LOCAL CHOIR’S HYMN

8.8. C. Plays Recording A hymn written and recorded by members of the choir of the St. Albans Presbyterian Church has been broadcast by the 8.8. C. The hymn, the theme of which is Freedom from Hunger, was played as part of the programme. “Christian Outlook,” on March 21. The choir has received a letter from the editor of the programme, the Rev. R. C. A Carey, who » also religious broadcasting assistant with the 8.8. C. Mr Carey wrote: “Thas is a magazine programme of Christian news and views and the record was introduced as follows: ‘Now to Freedom from Hunger. The Presbyterian Church of St. Albans, Christchurch, New Zealand, has made an unusual contribution. Two of their choir have written the words and tune of a new hymn on this subject. ' “They’ve recorded it, Band all the proceeds of their record are for the campaign. The hymn is based on the words of the Prodigal Son: ‘Father, I have sinned. I am not worthy to be called thy son.’ R applies them to the sins of racial prejudice and neglect of the needy.” The record, a 45 rp.m. disc, is called “Reach Out in Pity,” and was recorded in Christchurch. The hymn was composed by Mr G. Hadfield and his mother, Mrs P. Hadfield.
