DISPUTE AT BENMORE

Union Inviting M.P.s Mr J. Mathison, Labour member of Parliament for Avon, has accepted an invitation from the New Zealand Workers’ Union to meet representatives of the local union branch at the Benmore hydro-electric project to discuss problems which are in dispute between the Ministry of Works and the project workers. The South Island secretary of the union (Mr W. A Dempster) said yesterday that Mr A. E. Dick. M.P, (Government. Waitaki) had not yet replied to an invitation to discuss problems with the local union representatives Mr Mathison and Mr Dick, if he accepts, will meet the union men on Thursday. Points which the union wishes to raise with the members of Parliament include safety and fire precautions. living conditions and working relations between the men and Ministry of Works officers in charge of the project—all of which are matters in dispute.
