COALFIELD FIRE
Blaze Buried By Bulldozers (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Mar. 29._ The Maramarua open-cast mine fire was pushed underground today when th re*' bulldozers dumped clay into the burring tun-qel mouth “It’s alt finished as far as we are concerned.” the mine manager (Mr G. W McGregor' said today But he said he would watch it. as it was expected to burn underground for some months Gas and te aperature tests would indicate whether any further action was needed Three bulldozers pushed .('.OOO cub’c yards of clay into the fire for four hours this morninj They were hampered by light rain which made conditions slippery and often stopped the rubber-tyred scrapers from working.
