HEPATITIS IN OTAGO

Disease Still “Smouldering” (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 29. West Otago, which suffered a serious outbreak of hepatitis two years ago, is still showing signs of the disease being prevalent in the district. The acting-medical officer of health m Dunedin (Dr. A A Cox) said today that there had been about 10 cases confirmed in the district during the last two months. “It is still smouldering m the area.” he said. “This figure is high, but not nearly as bad as it was when hepatitis reached its peak in October. 1960. In that month 45 ci 'es were notified.” Dr. Cox said he was not sure what had caused the latest increase in the number of cases being reported.
