HUNTING SON DESTROYED
Heavy Fall In Schooling A horse was destroyed after breaking a leg, and a jockey had a leg badly bruised in a schooling fall at Riccarton yesterday. The horse was Hunting Son, a three-year-old owned by Mr W. A. Ford and trained by J. L. Barr. He was galloping with Noble Rank on the trial grass when he faltered and came down. He got to hid feet again, then collasped He had broken a foreleg, and was destroyed. B. Collins, one of the stable apprentices escaped injury when Hunting Son fell, but the hurdles horseman, T. Wilson, was not so lucky in a fall earlier in the morning. Wilson was riding Big John in a run over the standard hurdles with Ginger Mac (E. B. Skelton). They jumped the first two flights safely, but found themselves in trouble when they stepped up the pace going to the third. Ginger Mac forced Big John to the right on the approach, and both crashed through the wing, bumping their riders to the ground. Skelton got to his feet quickly, but Wilson had to be assisted to a car, which took him to hospital He suffered a badly-bruised leg After one refusal Ginger Mae, with Skelton up. later jumped the hurdle where the trouble had occurred.
