BRILLIANT TRIAL
Donald Dinnie Shows Form "The Press" Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH, March 28. An outstanding effort by the Longburn Handicap candidate, Donald Dinnie. eclipsed all other trial ists at Awapuni today. The Hawena visitor ran a brilliant five furlongs on the course proper to defeat Here Goes easily. Donald Dinnie seems improved a lot with last week's race. Plantation, one of those opposed to Donald Dinnie. again pleased when he shaded For Free over half a mile. Last week's high-weight winner, King’s Fun, ran most impressively to beat Sampler over six furlongs, and others to please included Challen Silver Pelt, Straight Irish, Dane, Dandeinee, Cloudy Robe. Elrey, Gay Gavotte, Economic and Noranda. On the course proper 30 feet out. Donald Dinnie (O’Neill) proved far too good for Here Goes (Mahoney) over five furlongs. romping home by lengths in Hie brilliant time of Imin 2 2-ssec, the last three in 37 4-ssec. This was an exceptional gallop. Plantation (O’Neill) seemed to play with For Free (Mingins) when they ran half a mile in SOsec, the last three in 37 2-ssec. •They finished together, with Plantation going very easily. He has thrived and should win again. Dane (Taylor) beat Bbint (Tournier) by a length at the end of half a mile in 49sec, the last three in 36 l-ssec. It was another good effort by Dane, which could be troublesome on Saturday. Straight Irish (Taylor) gave Lord Pilate (Rudd) a start and finished alongside at the end of six furlongs in Imin 19sec, the last three In 38 2-ssec. It was good work by Straight Irish, which will be ridden by J, T. Anderson in the Tamatete Handicap. Dandeinee (medium weight) ran half a mile freely, being timed over the last three in 37sec. His first-day race has improved him. and he should be a danger in the Stonyhurst Handicap. On the plough, King's Fun (Rudd) could hardly have been more impressive when she beat Sampler (Taylor) by a length at the end of six furlongs in imin 17 l-ssec, the last three in 39 l-ssec. This time is rarely bettered for the plough, and King's Fun did it easily. She seems much improved, and must be hard to beat again this week. Sampler was overshadowed in this gallop, but her latest form suggests a chance for her in the Tamatete Handicap The Awapuni Gold Cup rivals. Challen (O’Neill) and Outcome (Stratton), were timed from the seven furlongs in Imin 32 l-ssec, the last six in Imin 18sec. and the final three in 39 2-seec. Challen won the trial by two or three lengths. They look in good fettle for the cup, though they could only be given place chances.
