Cricket ST. ANDREW’S BEAT SCOTS
12 Wickets To J. Mcßae
An outstanding performance by the St. Andrew's College leg-spinner, J. Mcßae, who took 12 wickets for 40 runs in the match, was mainly responsible for St. Andrews easily defeated ing Scots College, Wellington, by 144 runs in the annual match played at Wellington on Tuesday and Wednesday. Put into bat by the Scots College captain St. Andrew’s had to struggle hard to reach a first innings total of 145 against the accurate medlumpace attack of C. Campbell, P. Va'ai and C. McLean. On.iy P. Stubbings, who scored an invaluable 59, looked at all at ease against the bowling. Scots College quickly reached 70 for three wickets, but once Mcßae was brought on to bowl the situation changed rapidly. Flighting his leg-breaks well into a strong breeze, Mcßae took the last seven wickets for 16 runs.
In its second innings, St. Andrew's batted with more assurance and P. Stubbings again looked the best of the batsmen with a fine 65. Needing 210 runs to win, Scots College again collapsed against the spin bowling of Mcßae, and was all out for 66.
