TROTTING WELCOME STAKES TOMORROW

Peerswick May Win In Spite Of Bad Draw

Unless there is one more scratching, Peerswick will have to start from the second line in the New Zealand Welcome Stakes at Addington tomorrow. Even so, this colt by Dignus should be good enough to overcome his awkward barrier draw and give his West Melton trainer, J. D. Litten, his first win in the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s classic. Peerswick received a shocking run in the Two-year-old Stakes at Methven last Saturday and returned an outstanding performance to finish third behind Falstaff and Wildwood Chief, both of which will oppose him again at Addington.

Peerswick will start behind two usually-reliable beginners, Meadowmac and Super C3tief, and with average luck he should obtain a reasonable run. Peerswick is a smart young pacer and he could be the top winner in his age group this season. Bellajily has drawn favourably at No. 3. She won impressively at Orari and has raced well without being placed at Washdyke and Methven since then. She did well to finish sixth at Methven last week after receiving a poor run. Meadowmac, too, had everything against him at Methven and he was never a danger. However, he was a stylish winner at Washdyke and from No. 1 at the barrier he should be to the fore ail the way. Highland Laddie, a sound fourth at

Methven, will be bracketed with Meadowmac. Patchy won the New Zealand Golden Slipper Stakes and finished seventh in the Timaru Nursery Stakes after appearing to be ill at ease in the going. He worked pleasingly yesterday rooming and should be one of the brighter had a fairly hard race at Methven last week and fougit on gamely for his win. Another bold showing is expected from him. Wildwood Chief has not paced a bad race in three starts and his chances of filling a place once again must be considered. The brother to For Certain looks likely to develop sound form. Hindu Prince and La Scala appeal most of the remainder. The double will be run on the Rattray Handicap and the Rothschild Handicap, Cairnbnae and Peel forming a likely combination. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be fast.
