DUNEDIN. March 28. Dunedin maintained its ascendancy over Christchurch on the final day of the annual summer sports tournament between the respective teachers' colleges and won the series by 11 points to 8. In today's events, held in weather ranging from fine and cold in the morning to overcast and cold by late afternoon, Dunedin won the athletics contest, the men’s softball and took first innings honours in the men's cricket Christchurch. which was trailing in the contest by two points at the end of the first day’s events, won the tennis and women’s softball, but needed an outright win the cricket to make a draw of the tournament Dunedin recorded a surprising but excellent win in the athletics by 11* points to 88. and in so doing practically clinched the tournament shield. The outstanding competitor was Miss L. Curtis (Chrlst-
church), a New Zealand representative at the Perth Empire Games, who broke the women's inter-college records in the high jump, long jump and shot put Christchurch had a narrow win in the tennis, being stronger in the men’s section, while the women scored most of Dunedin’s successes. Dunedin carried Its overnight total of 138 for five wickets to 253 in reply to Christchurch', 123 in the first Innings of the cricket A feature Was an unbeaten 117 scored by M. Scott, while J. Nlmmo. with five wickets for 87 runs, bowled steadily for Christchurch. In its second innings Christchurch was in danger of outright defeat at one stage, but dogged batting saw the side go through to make 300 by the end of the day. In the softball section, Dunedin’s men proved too good for their opponents to win 34-3. but Christchurch women pulled off a other unexpected 18-11 victory.
