OYSTER PRICES STILL HIGH
Company May Seek Own Supplies High prices were again reolirtri at an oyster auction in Christchurch yesterday. Prices flor the 46 sacks sold ranged from £8 Us to £7 4s, a shilling less than Wednesday’s highest price. Retail proa climbed to 3a 3d a Moves are under way to form a company to buy an oyster boat, but it is not known whether the retailers or the wholesalers began the sdtasne. The company is to be a limited liability company and starehoMera will not be able to hold more than 1000 shares. The object is to supply oysters at a more reasonable price. Mr H L Shadbolt, head of Independent Fisheries, Ltd., fish and oyster mechants, said yesterday that he did not know to what use he would put the auctioneer’s licence for which he has applied to -the Magistrate's Court. *7 don't know if you need a licence to auction oysters,” he mid. “I haven’t inquired.” He added that as far as he could see, no licence was needed to auction fish. Os distinct from oysters. Independent Fisheries’ application is practically ready for hearing. The company want the licence to operate from April 1.
