FISH WASHED ASHORE
Oakura Residents’ Haul (NZ. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. March 28. Oakura residents took fish home by the bucketful yesterday when thousands of pipers were washed up on the beach. Rutherford, of New Plymouth, said the piper was a calm water fish and a school may have been caught by a sudden change to rough seas. But a more likely explanation, he believes, was that the small fish, varying from six to 12 inches, were chased ashore by barracouta or kahawai.
