NEW ENGINE IN TRAWLER
Once Private Schooner The farmer private schooner, Kotiti, which figured in a dramatic sea and air chase off the east coast of the North Island about a year ago, had a new engine installe dat Lyttelton on Tuesday. Formerly owned by Lieu-tenant-Colonel A. C. R. Elderton, of Christchurch, the Kotiti was purchased by Mr T. G. Longdin of Akaroa. last September, and has been fishing out of Akaroa since. Mr Longdin. a New Zealander, was for 15 years in the advertising department of the Sydney "Sun,” but became a commercial fisherman in 1049. An 11 horse-power diesel engine has been removed from the Kotiti and a threecylinder engine of 31 horsepower at 2000 revolutions, fitted. Mr Longdin operates and handles the Kotiti alone when working and although the former pleasure craft is now used for fishing oommercdaMy, she is still remarkably spick and span. The Kotiti may return to Akaroa next week-end.
