VISITING AT HOSPITAL

“Difficulties Have Arisen”

Because of the stress on some patients through too much visiting, large notices are to be put up in the Princess Margaret Hospital, drawing the attention of the public to the conditions applying to visitors. “This is on an experimental basis, but we hope it will be sufficient to secure the public’s co-operation,” Professor A. J. Danks told the North Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday. Difficulties had arisen since the extension of visiting hours, Professor Danks said. While the extension had been, on the whole, a great success, some patients in delicate health had been left in a state of stress through getting too many visitors, and staff responsible for these patients were also stressed because of the effects on their charges. The stresses could arise not only through more than the regulation number of two visiters attending at one time, but also through a particular visiter staying too long or through an exrtittiicbed succcs* | sion of visitors.
