2000 MEN MARCH

Metal Workers In Melbourne (N.Z. Preu Asm.—Copyright) MELBOURNE, March 26. Two thousand metal trade workers marched through Melbourne streets to the Arbitration Commission building today. The commission is in the concluding stages of hearing claims by metal trade unions for higher pay and extra annual leave. Before the march the men held an overflow meeting at a hall in the city. The meeting and march were part of a Melbourne Trades Hall Council campaign supporting the metal trade unions’ claims.

The meeting carried unanimously a resolution calling on all metal workers in all workshops to continue to give a lead in support of the claims. A resolution expressed determination that only “full satisfaction of both our claims will be acceptable to metal workers.”
