UK. FARMERS’ LEADER

N.Z. Visit Next Month (Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, March 26. Does Mr Harold Woolley, president of the National Farmers’ Union of England and Wales, intend to raise with Federated Farmers and the New Zealand Dairy and Meat Boards the question of the limitation of exports of New Zealand produce to Britain, particularly meat, during his visit to Wellington from April 13 to April 17? Asked this question, Mr Woolley today replied: “I don’t want to anticipate how the thing might develop. We are not thinking just in terms of limitation. Something we want to look at is the phasing of supplies to the British market, which is as equally important as quantities,” Mr Woolley also said in an interview: “We believe there has to be some regulation of supplies to the British market. This applies both to home production and to imports. The market will only absorb so much.” The official purpose of Mr Woolley’s visit to Wellington, on which he will be accompanied by Mr Asher Winegarten, chief economist to the N.F.U., is to discuss international commodity agreements.
