Heavy Shipments Of Wool Last Month

The quantity of wool entered for export from New Zealand in February this year—189,464 bales —was the highest February total since the 216,665 bales in February of 1960. Last year’s February shipments totalled 172.306 bales. Because of lighter shipments in earlier months this season, the total of 886,643 bales for the eight months ended February is still 141,774 bales, or 14 per cent., down on last season’s figure. Because of the estimated rise in the wool clip this season, heavy shipments can be expected in the remaining four months of the export year. This was £2lm upon the figure for the same period in 1961-62. Weight of wool sold exceeded 1500 m lb. Proceeds at auction sales in Australia totalled £2olm, in New Zealand £slm, and in South Africa £som.
