U.K.-SOVIET TRADE

Erroll Sees Benefits (N.Z.P.A..Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, March 26. The President of Britain’s Board of Trade (Mr Frederick Erroll) said today that British trade with the Soviet Bloc brought benefits. He said Soviet trade provided Britain with a “valuable source of raw materials and foodstuffs, and they are a growing market for our manufactured goods, particularly capital equipment.” Mr Erroll was speaking at a conference called “Britain After Brussels” organised by the Westminster (London) Chamber of Commerce. Mr Erroll said: “The breakdown in Brussels makes it even more necessary for us to work hard for the liberalisation and expansion of world trade, and we are seeking to achieve this objective wherever we can. “We are not going to turn our backs on Europe but we cannot let our export trade and economy stand still.

“Commonwealth countries need to develop their own economies and, like us, to expand their trade with the whole world on a multilateral basis,” but it was most important “not to miss the great opportunities which the Commonwealth still presents.”
