BONUS FOR HUNTERS
Ammunition Issue
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, March 27. The free issue of ammunition to private hunters would go on another year, the Minister of Forests (Mr Gerard) said today. The scheme, begun in 1959 U help destroy noxious animals, had had excellent results. Since then 343.894 animals had been shot at a cost of 9d each. Last year's tally was 106,854. "So long as ammunition stocks make it possible at reasonable cost, the arrangement should continue because it has proved itself an incentive to the private hunter.’’ said Mr Gerard. Three rounds were issued for each animal destroyed. The results were helping forest conservation, and he urged all hunters to continue their efforts, which greatly helped the Government contain the depredations of these animals.
