ACCIDENT FLARE

Warning For Drivers (N.Z. Press Associitton) AUCKLAND, March 28. A dare, to be used to warn motorists of an accident ahead, has been adopted by the police. Cars and stations in the Auckland district are being issued with quantities of the flares. The decision to use the flares was made because there had been many cases of motorists knocking over accident warning signs, said a police officer today. There had also been occasions when policemen measuring accident scenes had been knocked down. The flares, of American design, burn for 10 or 15 minutes. They can be jabbed into a reed surface on the metal spike.
