YACHTS LOG LOST
Probably Taken By Shark
(N.Z Press Association) AUCKLAND, Mar. 19.
Minus its log, an Australian racing yacht, the Astor, arrived in Auckland today after a calm and mainly uneventful cruise from Sydney The yacht, which is on its way to Lbs Angeles to take part in the 2250-mile Los Angeles-Honolulu race, lost its log two days out from Sydney. No-one saw it go, but it is presumed that it was taken by a shark. The log is a speedometer towed by yachts on long ropes. Logs are frequently taken by fish because they resemble spinners.
