CAMP FOR LIFE BOY LEADERS
Work Among Young People
“Life Boy leaders must, go out and work among the young people of today andnot rely on the church to provide the. boys,” said the Rev.. M. N. Dickey at the closing service of the Life Boys’ basic training course held at Leigh camp, Loburn. during the week-end. Twenty-eight leaders from Ashburton, Christchurch, and Rangiora attended the course, which was the second to be held in the Canterbury area since the introduction of a new basic training scheme last year. Mr Dickey said the boys Should remember that the founder, of the Boys’ Brigade, Sir William Smith, started, the movement as a missionary branch of the church to bring young people off the streets and give them a purpose in life. “By going out among the boys you are truly putting Christianity into action,” he said. The leaders who attended the course are now eligible to attend the national training course to be held in Christchurch in June.
