Poets To Read Own Works
Works by six New Zealand poets will be read in two programmes in the Civic Theatre on Friday. Five poets will read their own work. There will be large attendances of schoolchildren but the readings are open to the public. The first session will be in the afternoon and the second in the evening. R A. K. Mason, this year’s Burns Fellow, will read poems from his recent book, and other poets who will read their own works are James K. Baxter, the Rev. Father John Weir, Paul Henderson (Ruth France’s pseudonym), and Wendy de la Bere. Gregory Kane will read poems by Charles Spear.
The readings have been organised by the Theaitre Arts Guild and they will be the first of annual readings planned by the society—e scheme the group followed a number of years ago.
