POWER LINE CONTRACT
Report Denied By Minister
(N.Z. Pr«M Association) WELLINGTON. February 24 ”1 have not heard any previous mention of it. It all sounds like nonsense to me." said the Minister of Electricity (Mr Goosman) tonight when asked if it were true as alleged by Mr J. Mathison. MR., that the Government was about to let a contract to an Italian firm for the erection of the transmission lines and pylons for the Menapouri hydro - electric power scheme. Mr Goosman said that if any contract was in. prospect or under consideration. he would certainly know about it. Anything relating to the possible admission to New Zealand of foreign worker* would be looked at very closely indeed. “All I can say is that we have not got that far,” Mr Goosman said, “We have not considered placing con-' tracts for the erection of
transmission pylons. Nothing has been agreed on concerning that side of it. As far as the suggestion of an Italian company bringing workers to New Zealand, I have just not heard of it. "Nonsense is how I would describe the suggestion,” he said.
