POLICE STOP CAR RACING
Angry Reaction From Crowd (N.Z. Press Association) PALMERSTON N„ Feb. 24. Police stopped stock car racing at the Palmerston North Showgrounds on Saturday night for 15 minutes when spectators in the crowded main stand refused to move after being asked repeatedly to stop sitting in the aisles. Some fighting broke out, the crowd started clapping and jeering, and the situation looked serious until the manager of the meeting, Mr R. New', appealed over the loudspeaker for spectators to be sensible.
The fighting and jeering stopped, and the crowd began to move so that the racing could continue.
