JUNIOR RED CROSS

Contributions To Exhibition As part of the world-wide centenary celebrations, the New Zealand Junior Red Cross has been asked to participate in an exhibition to be staged at Geneva during the International Red Cross centenary congress. Other exhibitions to which the New Zealand section will be sending art, handicrafts, photographs, badges, and tape recordings, will be staged in Bulgaria, the United States, Pakistan, Australia, Belgium, and at the Swiss Red Cross headquarters in Berne. Girl Artist Several paintings by New Zealand members were exhibited at an International Junior Red Cross art exhibition in Seoul, Korea, where paintings from 23 countries were on display Among them was one by a Taranaki girl, Gabriel Te Huia, of Mokau, who was awarded third prize. In six days, this exhibition, containing 255 painting* and staged by the Korean Information Centre, was seen by 14,000 visitors. New Zealand members have recently contributed 276 quilts, 809 ditty bag* (each containing soap, face cloth, comb, tooth brush, small towel, a toy, and other useful articles), 200 soft toys not included in the bags, and 2200 garments, many of them new. These filled 17 large cases and all but three have already been shipped to Korea and Hong Kong. In addition, £7OO has been forwarded t through the League of Red Cross Societies at Geneva for the support of two refugee children at a Swiss Preventorium; the adoption of a. European Refugee child; assistance for Iran earthquake victims; relief in Algeria; and to provide a further cottage at a hospital for lepers in South India.
