ONE MOTOR UNION
Fresh Merger Attempt
A fresh attempt to have the North and South Island Motor Unions joined into one national motoring organisation will be made at the South Island union’s halfyearly meeting in Christchurch next month. The Automobile Association (Otago) has given notice of remits calling for the union executive to report on the whole issue by June so that merger proposals can be discussed at the annual meeting in September. Otago asks that the March meeting instruct the executive:—(l) To consider four proposals on subscriptions and voting in a single motoring body which have been submitted by the joint standing committee of both unions and the automobile associations of Otago, Southland, and Auckland: (2) to make recommendations on present proposals or any modification of them; (3) to report to all South Island associations by the end of June; (4) to put the matter on the agenda for the annual meeting at Te Anau in September.
