DUKE’S AWARD SCHEME
Borstal Boys Eligible (N.Z. Press Association) TNVEBCABGHIL, Feb. 20. The Invercargill Borstal superintendent, Mr R. G. Brown, will inquire about the procedure necessary for Borstal inmates to qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh award. The Duke had a conversation with Mr Brown when he was inspecting the Outward Bound School at Anakiwa on Wednesday. He asked Mr Brown if any Borstal inmates had qualified for the award and said that Borstal boys in Britain often qualified.
Mr Brown said today: "We did not realise Borstal boys were eligible for the award. The Duke had a lung ehat with me about the Borstal qpd was very interested in our institution here.”
Mr Brown was at Anakiwa with other members of the council of the Outward Bound Trust He said the Duke, patron of the school, wm “ptrrticuJarly interested in Anakiwa.”
