Tennis U.K. Players Defeated
(NX. Press Association) MASTERTON, Feb. 20. Three of the four young British tennis players now touring New Zealand were beaten to singles matches at Masterton today, but fared better to the doubled. Result* were (British team first):— R Taylor beat R. G. Clarke (Wellington). 6-1, 6-0: G. Stowell lost to F. Scarlett (Wellington). 7-5. 3-6, 4-6: S. Matthews lost to P. Thompson (North Auckland) 6-3, 1-6, 0-6; M. Cox lost to I. Crookenden (Waikato), 2-6, 6-1. 1-6: Cox and Taylor beat Crookenden and Clarke. 6-4. 7-5: Stilwell and Matthews beat Thompson and Scarlett. 4-6. 6-4, 6-4.
